John W. Barnett
February 02, 2021
John W. Barnett, 75, went to be with his Lord and Savior on February 2, 2021, at Taylor House in Des Moines, Iowa.
He was born at home on May 29, 1945, in St. Albans, West Virginia to Arnold and Nellie Barnett. After graduating from high school he served in the US Army. He had two children, Jamie and Samantha, and worked in the chemical industry for several years.
John was living in West Virginia and met Pam while she was there visiting friends. They quickly realized how much they had in common and after a short courtship they married in 1984. John moved to Des Moines and started working at Wyckoff Heating and Cooling. He gained a large extended family that loved the “hillbilly” in him. He loved to hunt and spend time at the farm, sitting on the deck watching the deer in the cornfield.
John is survived by his wife, Pam; children, Jamie (Betsy) Barnett, Samantha (Jim) Martin, Job (Kris) Cooper and Jason (Carrie) Cooper; grandchildren, Bailey (Isaac) Short, Taylor Barnett, Bret Barnett, Nile and Emmett Martin, Brady (Karli) Cooper, Zach (Alexis) Cooper, Mackenzy (fiancé Anthony Caligiuri) Cooper, Jason Jr. Cooper, Genevieve Cooper, Lindsey (Avery) Fuller; great-grandchildren, Weston, Wyatt, Callan Cooper and one arriving in April, Aidan, Rylan, Aubrey Fuller and Zalina; siblings, Nancy (Don) Barron, Mike (Patti) Barnett; brothers-in-law, Donnie (Jane) Wyckoff, Ron (Lee) Wyckoff, Kyle (Krysta) Wyckoff, Tobie (Jodi) Wyckoff; sisters-in-law, Barb Barnett, Kalyn (Neil Jay) Lucas and Becky Wyckoff; his niece Kim (Fred) Hedrick and a host of other nieces and nephews.

The family will greet friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, February 4, 2021 at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street. Pam and Family,
I was so sorry to hear of John's passing. My husband, Larry, enjoyed John's friendship after getting to know him through construction jobs. After discovering their common interest in all things guns, they took a varmint hunting trip to South Dakota, which Larry talked about fondly until his passing in 2009. I watched the service online this morning. It was a beautiful tribute to a good man. You are in my thoughts and prayers.
