Kris G. Schroeder
January 31, 2021
Kris Groves Schroeder, 56, of Waukee, Iowa died January 31st, 2021 in Omaha, Nebraska.
There will be a celebration of Kris’ life on Friday, February 5, 2021 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m., with a time of sharing at 6:00 p.m.
Born in Lancaster, Wisconsin on March 21, 1964, Kris was the youngest son of Clint and Joan Schroeder. Kris and Melanie Lynn Kress were married on August 5th, 1994. They became devoted parents to two sons and a daughter. His proudest legacy is a loving family who adored him beyond words and whom he adored too.
His intellect, innate goodness, and wicked grin will be with us always. He was a kind and thoughtful man and an intentional listener, with a great sense of humor and a wonderful laugh. Kris was a talented and generous cook, and for him, cooking and providing for his family was his language of love. Kris was a proud Union Member of Local Teamsters No. M518. He was an avid reader, a loyal and patient Chicago Cubs and Bears fan, and loved a Hawaiian shirt and a good hat.
Schroeder is survived by his wife of 26 years, Melanie; and three kids, Evan, Sarah, and Quinn. He is also survived by his mother, Joan; two brothers, John of Aurora, CO and Kurt of Saylorville, IA, and sister, Kirsten Nipper (Joseph) of Coeur d'Alene, ID, and many loving nephews, nieces, and lifelong friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Clinton Paul Schroeder, and sisters-in-law Helen Schroeder and Deb Rock Schroeder.
Memorials may be given as blood donations to LifeServe Blood Center, critical to Kris’s final months, and to support his children’s educational fund, his proudest achievement.
Colossians 3:12-15
12 Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. 13 Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. 14 And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity. 15 Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful.

The closeness and adventrues of the Schroeder/Jenkins clans are regular topics of conversation in our household. Legend even. Kris and I were great buds; albeit, mostly from a distance. Both the youngest brothers out of three, we endured quite a bit of abuse. And enjoyed most of it. Seems our last adventure had to do with Kris sitting next to me before sliding out the back of a large raft on the Arkansas River in Brown's Canyon, CO. Our guide scooped him out 100 yards downstream and after another couple sets of rapids. He was in shock, but as always game to continue after warming up a bit. I think that was shortly after (before?) another of his slides, this time over a waterfall--I had nothing to do with that. Anyway, great memories (way many more beyond this final one) and Godspeed to Kris and all the Schroeders. Your friend in Christ.

john and i got to know Kris when he was a youngster. His parents were friends of the Goodwins (my late in laws). I remember all the Schroder children as delightful and well behaved. We send our condolences to the whole family and especially to Joanie. John and Marlys Hocker and Bev Riggs.

Uncle Kris,
You know I'm pretty sure I picked my favorite baseball and football teams because of you. Well, maybe you and little bit of Grandpa:)
And although it has been way too long since we saw each other last I can still remember all those years ago: football on tv, you cooking in the kitchen, and playing with Sarah, Evan, and baby Quinn.
I can't even begin to imagine the pain that they and Aunt Melanie must be feeling right now, but if it's any consolation just know I'm thinking about all of you right now.
Rest easy Uncle Kris; you will be dearly missed. I love you.

I only knew Kris through Melanie. Many stories told on our mornings before teaching our kindergartners. I did learn he had wonderful cooking skills. Followed his journey these past few months with her posts. Many days I found my thoughts and prayers headed to Omaha. I am truly sorry for your lose, Melanie, Sara, Quinn and Evan. May you continue to hold all your memories close. His smirk is the best.
