Jack Spangler
January 30, 2021
Jack Spangler, age 84, passed away Saturday, January 30, 2021.
Jack was born December 3, 1936 in Adair, Iowa to Amos “Jim” Warner Spangler and Frances Alvina (Krumm) Spangler. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force from 1955 to 1960. He married the love of his life, Virginia Rae Nichols on April 23, 1957. Jack worked for Adair Casey Schools as the Head Bus Driver. He then moved his family to the family farm and farmed with his father for many years. Farming became very difficult in the 1980s, so he took employment with JPI in Atlantic, Iowa manufacturing bearings. Jack went on to work for Wise Motels as their maintenance man, with his “head boss” being his beautiful wife, Virginia. Jack then worked for Crawford’s driving a grain truck before retiring for good.
Jack was a laid back, easy going man who was always very good natured. He had a heart of gold and a soft spot for animals. Jack loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and his great-grandchildren.
He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Virginia; son, Jeff (Pam) Spangler; daughter, Lorrie (Mark) Lengel; grandchildren, Jessica (Robert) Ward, Ashleigh (Ryan Sheley) Lengel, Nicholas Spangler, and Christopher Spangler; great-grandchildren, Justin, Tyler, and McKenzie Ward; brother, Steve (Rosie) Spangler; and other loving relatives and many special friends.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents, Amos “Jim” and Frances Spangler.
There will be a private family service at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, February 5, 2021 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street Des Moines. Guests may attend virtually through a link that will be available below shortly.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be directed to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or the Animal Rescue League.

My precious Uncle. I will miss your smile & our chats. How lucky was I to have you as my Uncle. I have so many memories being at your farm when I was young. From the dirt bike, sleep overs with my cousins to Christmas time in your sunken living room. I thought that was the coolest thing back then. You will be incredibly missed. Love Carie

I had the pleasure of working with Lorrie for 2 years, and you could see Jack's goodness shine through her. While I only had the pleasure of meeting him once, when he sauntered in to Waveland and happily announced "Jack Spangler!" he touched my heart. Lorrie, Mark and family I am so sorry for your loss of such a tremendous soul. I extend the deepest condolences.
