Geoffrey Anderson Sr.
January 21, 2021
Geoffrey M. Anderson, Sr., 61, passed away at his home on January 21, 2021 in Des Moines, Iowa.
Geoff was born September 29th, 1959 to Gerald and Goldie (Hodson) Anderson in Des Moines, Iowa. In earlier years he worked at Herschel Parts as a Tool and Die maker and then went on to work at Dee Zee for most of his life.
Geoff was a very charismatic individual with a great smile and laugh and touched the lives of all who knew him. He lived life to the fullest and had many passions. One of those was cooking, especially for others. Whether it was fish frys or grilling out, you would never walk away from his house hungry.
Geoff’s other love was fishing. Whether it was fishing off of Scott Street Bridge, down at the gravel pits, Lake Rathbun or the farm ponds, he loved the water. It was his happy place where he could escape any problems or troubles he may have been facing and just be at peace.
Geoff will always be remembered for his kind heart, charm and love for the outdoors. He will forever be in our hearts and will greatly be missed.
Geoff is survived by his ex-wife and friend, Cathey (Allen) Wright; his son Geoffrey Anderson, Jr. (Jamie Wagner) and daughter Mandy (Dustin) Howard; grandchildren, Alexis Howard, Brooklyn Anderson, Tryston Anderson, and Hunter Anderson.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Gerald Anderson, Lawrence and Goldie Flinn; brother, Gregory Anderson; and sister, Gina Warrell.
Geoff’s wishes were to be cremated. A memorial service will be held at 12:00 p.m., on Thursday, February 4, 2021 at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the family in loving memory of Geoff.

I have many great memories of family reunions and family get togethers. Some of the best were within the years he spent in Colorado with his aunt and uncle when I came to visit. Gave us a time to recap our childhood. He will be missed. My prayers are with all his family and friends.

In a simpler time, many years ago when we were young and healthy, Geoffrey and I were the best of friends....and first cousins. back then the family would often gather for a picnic or reunion of some kind. Geoff and I would always find each other and run off to find a place to fish. We would laugh. laugh all the time. I always looked forward to seeing him when we had either a get together at Grandma's house or the Purdy reunion, or down at the acreage south of Indianola belonging to another family of Andersons. As we grew older and grew apart the only time I would see him was at a funeral for one of the beloved Hodson clan. Geoffrey mean't the world to me even though in latter years we were worlds apart. He will always occupy a significant place in my heart. My heartfelt condolences to his family and children. Remember him for the good man he was. For me he was my best friend.
