Service Details

Glen Stephen Lester, 82, passed away peacefully on January 25, 2021 at University Park Nursing and Rehab in Des Moines, Iowa.

Glen was born the son of Don and Grace (Parmenter) Lester on February 2, 1938 in Des Moines, Iowa. He joined the military and was deployed with the Navy at age 17.

There was nothing that Glen could not fix and would tear apart anything to find out what was wrong with it and then put it all back together. He had a positive outlook and touched the lives of all who knew him. Glen was an avid nature lover and storyteller, leaving his listener to ponder the validity of the content. Although once you really knew him, it wasn’t hard to believe it could be true.

Glen is survived by his children: daughter, Ila (Robert) Mayberry, son, Scott (Jasmine) Lester; grandchildren: Jacob, Colby, Brody, Wade, Erika, Phoebe; siblings: Mary, Marjorie, Jane; and many nieces and nephews.

Glen was preceded in death by his parents, brothers: Richard, Kenneth, Donald, Paul, and sister, Bonnie.

A funeral and memorial service were attended by close family during a private ceremony on February 12, 2021 at Iowa Veterans Cemetery near Van Meter, Iowa. The ceremony with full military honors included the playing of Taps, flag ceremony, and a special dedication to the family by U.S. Navy Personnel. The family appreciates all of your kind thoughts and prayers at this time and hopes that you will continue to mask up and social distance.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Food Bank of Iowa or the Animal Rescue League in Glen’s name.
