Peter S. Vitiritto
January 21, 2021
Peter S. Vitiritto, 67, passed away at home surrounded by the love and comfort of his family on January 21, 2021. The son of Michael and Phyllis Vitiritto, Pete was born in Des Moines on September 18, 1953.
Pete was a North High graduate. He eventually went on to own and operate his own business, Quality Auto Trim. Mr. Trim (Pinstripe Pete) was very good at his job, but even better at making friends in and around the business. He thoroughly enjoyed visiting all his regular stops and always had a smile on his face & a story to tell.
Pete enjoyed anything that involved his wife, kids, and grandchildren. Many good memories were made racing R/C cars, slot cars, working on his mustang, taking it to car shows and different racing events, and more recently taking up fishing and camping with the family.
Pete also made lifelong friendships with many as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses. He was always eager to meet with friends at assemblies and conventions and did his best to encourage them, even when he was in poor health, up until the end. He had a strong faith & trust in Jehovah that he enjoyed sharing with ones he had known for years, or had just met in a laundry mat during his ministry. Pete loved his regular Friday nights with Tootie and their four granddaughters when they would all enjoy pizza. Then it was off to the basement to clean, count & inspect “pennies” (coins) and listen to music - as loud as it would go “to make the floor rumble”. Pete was also a great outdoorsman... well, not really, but he could easily catch the smallest fish in the pond with homegrown worms from his very own worm farm. He loved camping with his family all over Iowa and spent lots of time on the water, either at his pool (working on his tan) or on the lake which he truly enjoyed. One of his most memorable trips was to Maui, Hawaii with the family. He often talked about what a beautiful place it was and he didn’t want to leave once he got there.
Peter is survived by his loving wife, Tootie of 47 years who was with him every step of the way, His Son Ryan, Daughter-in-Law Libby, Daughter Ashley, Son-in-Law Josh Martz, and his Granddaughters Gianna, Ava (Ryan), Maci and Kyla (Ashley) and his beloved pup-companion, Jazzy. He was loved by all and will be greatly missed until we can all see him again!
A Zoom service will be on Saturday, February 6th at 2:00pm.

I wanted to share my first time meeting Pete and Tootie, Ryan and Ashley today but too many tears came and due to that, words could not. I first met them upon coming to Des Moines in 1984. I spent the weekend with them they treated me like part of the family from that first night! and it never stopped! After moving from the city to Eastern Iowa, coming back for the conventions I would always look for them and many hugs and smiles were found! Although months may go by as life does, whenever Tootie and I would text it would be like we just talked the day before. Neither Pete nor Tootie were ever strangers once you were in their "family. " Pete will be missed but we will see him again very very soon. My thoughts and my prayers are with all of you. Danielle and Lindsay wanted me to extend their condolences also. I love you guys! Always...

Tootie and family, so sorry to learn about Pete's passing. Although our lives took different paths, we shared several years of good times (almost 50 years ago). He was a very special person. We will always have the memories, including being part of your wedding. Please know you are in our thoughts and prayers.

Growing up without a dad Pete among a few others tried to keep me on the straight and narrow! Pete spent quality time with me!! I will never forget the great memories from when I was a kid from installing a wood stove, which none of us really knew what we were doing, to cutting down trees, splitting firewood, slot car racing. Later in life he was always there. There were many times Pete replaced the family I didn't have. Pete down to the last never lost faith! Tootie, Ryan and Ashely we are so sorry for your loss! Old man Pete was one of a kind!

Pete was an awesome guy. We used to race RC cars together. He was always smiling and joking and having a good time. And he was always so very proud of his son, Ryan. He will be greatly missed. Godspeed, Pete. RIP. :(

"A good time was had by all" is always the feeling around Pete,Tootie and family. It is impossible to do anything but smile whether Pete was telling a story, being muted on Zoom 😊, a story was being told about him, or you could hear his music. But most frequently, the encouragement he would give in the congregation as he would speak of his love for the gems he would find in his Bible study, the hope and joy and comfort he wanted each of us personally to feel with him, and there was no doubt he wants each of us to be alongside him and his family when mankind is at peace very soon. What a joy it has been to know Pete & Tootie and the entire Vitiritto Family! How we look forward to seeing Pete in paradise and we all know what he'll do when he sees his family and friends. With a big smile on his face he will make a witty comment and then his eyes will twinkle like only his can!!! What a loving spiritually minded husband, father, grandfather and friend he has been!! And he will soon pick up right where he left off after only a brief nap. We pray that Tootie and the family will all be comforted by our wonderful God of comfort Jehovah! Jim and Robbie Miller

I've known the Vitiritto's since birth and Pete will always have a huge place in my heart, along with Tootie, Ryan and Ash. Pete and Tootie were like second parents to me; Ryan and Ash like my own brother and sister.
I have so many good memories of Pete, I couldnt know where to begin..
All I can say is that Pete was a caring, giving Man and he always lovingly treated Ryan and Ashs friends like we were HIS own kids (whether we liked it or not 😂❤)
He included us in all of his Interests like Cars, Music, Stereos, Bicycles, going to IA Cubs games, etc.
Ill always remember our families going out to eat on Friday nights or hanging out and listening to music in the basement of the Vitiritto house.
My thoughts and prayers are with you Tootie, Ryan and Ash. I miss you all and will continue to think about you and Pete..

Dear Tootie & Family-My deepest sympathy to all of you. I always enjoyed seeing Pete at the conventions. He was so full of personality. We had that Italian thing going that was endearing! My heart goes out to you. Stay close to Jehovah.

We've known Petie for over 40yrs raised our kids together and have had some great times with him and his family. Everytime we went away together with him and Tootie on our weekend trips to Chicago or Kansas City we had so much fun and a lot of laughs; like the time we all were buying new down pillows and he didn't want to throw his pillow away that he had since he was a little boy; so you can imagine the shape it was in, what was left of it; but after an hour or so trying to convince him he did'nt need it he took the big plung and away it went! We were so proud of him. we also remember the time we drove over to Stew Hansens auto lot cause him and Mike liked to do that alot and if anyone knows how Pete liked to look nice whenever he left the house in his pressed pants and shirts, that nite he was wearing his khaki pants and Tootie and I were sitting in the van eating some junior mints waiting for Mike and Pete to walk around the lot and when they got back to the van Tootie and i had noticed that Pete had a junior mint stuck to his butt and we started laughing so hard and almost afraid to tell him but we did. Mike looked over at Pete and said "Pete, whats a little poopy among friends" and we all laughed so hard even including Pete. There were so many good times with Pete we could'nt tell them all. We were more family than friends and we can't even begin to imagine him not being with us anymore. He will always have a special place in our heart now and forever and we look forward sooooooo much to seeing him again in the resurrection. We love you Petie and our prayers are with Tootie and the kids. May Jehovah be with you during this heartbreaking and difficult time. we will always be here for you and the kids. Love you all❤💕
PS: Tootie; we just want to say how very sorry we were to hear about Pete. He has been in our prayers constantly. May Jehovah comfort you and your family.
