Stephen Dean Poindexter
January 21, 2021
Stephen Dean Poindexter, 51, died tragically from a fall on Thursday January 21, 2021 at his father’s home in Madrid. He was doing what he did best, helping others, by fixing the damage on his dad’s roof caused from the derecho storm last fall.
Steve was born August 5, 1969 to Dean and Carolyn Jean (Embry) Poindexter in Des Moines. He was a life-long carpenter and handy man and took pride in his role as a volunteer fire fighter for the Leon Fire Department. Steve spent many a weekend camping, fishing, and spending time with friends and family.
Steve is survived by his wife of 23 years, Sandy; daughter, Victoria (Joe Godfroy) Ratliff; father, Dean “Deano” Poindexter, Jr.; brother, Scott (Christy) Poindexter; sister, Sheila Poindexter; nephew, Joseph Poindexter; niece, Lacey Poindexter; grandmother, Violet Poindexter; aunt, Pam (Jeff) McLey; and a host of other family and beloved friends.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Carolyn Jean Poindexter.
A celebration of his life will held later this summer.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the family in loving memory of Steve.
