D. Mark Haisch
January 21, 2021
D. Mark Haisch, 55, passed away January 21, 2021 at MercyOne West Des Moines Medical Center after fighting a long and courageous battle.
Mark was born on November 22, 1965 to Lloyd and Betty Lou (Ellefson) Haisch in Vinton, Iowa and was raised in Brandon, Iowa.
He graduated from Independence High School in 1984. On September 16, 1989 he married his best friend Barb in Independence, Iowa. He received his BA from University of Northern Iowa. He devoted 33 years to Kum & Go and held a variety of titles over the years.
Mark enjoyed fishing and golf and was an avid UNI Panthers fan. PANTHER PRIDE! He was always ready to lend a hand or offer his advice at a moment’s notice. Even on a bad day he would put others first and make sure those around him were taken care of first.
He is survived by his wife, Barb; children, Lindsey (Colten) Still and Danny Haisch; grandson, Oliver Still; sister, Ann “Sis” (Chris) Fegter; stepmother, Phyllis Haisch; and a host of many other loving family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral service will be held on Thursday, January 28, 2021 at 10:00 am also at the funeral home. Mark will be laid to rest at Waukee Cemetery. Hi Barb and family- from my family to yours, our deepest, heartfelt condolences on your loss. I know that my words would be woefully inadequate given the scale of your heartbreak, so I thought I'd include a couple quotes that resonate with me:
I know for certain that we never lose the people we love, even to death. They continue to participate in every act, thought and decision we make. Their love leaves an indelible imprint in our memories.
Leo Buscaglia
All their life in this world and all their adventures had only been the cover and the title page: now at last they were beginning Chapter One of the Great Story which no one on earth has read: which goes on for ever: in which every chapter is better than the one before.

Hi Barb, Mark will be missed by all who were lucky enough to know him. He was one of the first people I interacted with as I was interviewing with Kum and Go. He is one of the reasons I decided to join KG. He was so engaging, thoughtful, kind, and someone that I wanted to work for. My prayers are with you and your family as you mourn the loss of Mark. The strength that Mark fought with will be the strength that carries you and your family forward. God Bless...

Barb and family, so sorry for your loss. I was so appreciative of Mark's friendship and loved running into you all at Waukee high school events or in the office, knowing I was about to get a friendly smile and genuine conversation. Mark was a great work colleague, but an even better friend. He will be missed.

Barb, I really miss working next to you and hearing all the stores about you, mark & the family. Mark was one of kind and one of the greatest memories I have of him was as a GM. He was a DVP at the time and came into my store in full suit. When he came to visit we had just gotten our truck and one of the first things he said to me was " How can I help you?" I jokely said, "Help me put away my truck." Without hesitation he took off his suite coat and got to work! This is one of the many things I loved about Mark and will always look up to him as a leader! Thoughts and Prayers to you & your family.
