Dale E. Smith

Dale E. Smith, 80, passed away Thursday, September 3, 2009, with the comfort of his wife & sons at Taylor House.
Dale was born April 25, 1929 in Des Moines to John and Jesse Mae (Woods) Smith. He was a lifelong resident of Des Moines, graduated from East High School and was a bricklayer from 1947 until his retirement in 1990. Dale was a member of Central Community of Christ Church, Bricklayers Allied Craftworkers Local 3 Iowa, a 50 year member of Eastgate Lodge and Scottish Rite Consistory and a member of Zag Ga Zig Shrine.
Dale is survived by his wife of 61 years, Maxine; sons, Darrell (Jacquie) Smith and Edwin (Debbie) Smith; 12 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his sons, Terry, Gary and Carl Smith; grandson, Chad Smith; two brothers and two sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, September 8, 2009 at Hamilton's Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, with burial at Oakwood Cemetery in Pleasant Hill. Visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
