Ronald W. Griggs
January 21, 2021
Ronald Wayne Griggs, age 74, passed away Thursday, January 21, 2021.
Ron was born June 8, 1946 in Des Moines, Iowa to Kenneth G. and Virgle L. (Smith) Griggs. He married Helen Y. “Bonnie” (Rodgers) Griggs in Des Moines, Iowa on January 13, 1965. To this union two daughters were born: Theresa L. “Tracy” Dawson (Scott) and Michelle A. “Shelley” Larson (Joel). He worked for Massey Ferguson, Iowa Lutheran Hospital, and for the City of Altoona Police Department as a Police Sergeant, from where he retired in 2010.
Family was his meaning for all that he did. He enjoyed watching his daughters play softball and even coached them. He enjoyed watching all the activities of his four grandchildren. That kept him very busy! He loved to be outside hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed traveling with his wife, Bonnie. They took many trips out west to the Rocky Mountains, Yellowstone, Hawaii, and all the places in between. His dogs, Rubie, Lucie, and Gracie held a special place in his heart.
In addition to his loving wife, Bonnie and beloved daughters, Tracy and Shelley and their spouses, Ron will also be remembered by his four grandchildren, Thomas Dawson (Emily), Emily Dawson, Katelyn Larson, and Madelyn Larson; and extended family and many friends.
Ron was preceded in death by his parents, Kenny and Virg Griggs; brother, Tom Griggs of Peoria, AZ; and his grandparents.
There will be a celebration of life on Saturday, May 15, 2021 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at Thomas Mitchell Park, Shelter House #1.
Memorial contributions may be directed to AHeinz57 Pet Rescue.

Sincere condolences to the Griggs family from Diane and from me. Ron was a true warrior for the Altoona Police Department. Serious, sincere and honorable, he also possessed a wonderful sense of humor, once you got past that gruff exterior. Always respected and admired by his fellow officers. There will never be another like him.

My dad Floyd Gilbert worked with Ron at Massey and I remember Ron from when I was a little girl. He and my dad had a lot of good times together! He was such a great man and so kind to me. I'm so very sorry to the family for such a huge loss! I just lost my dad December 17th, 2020. I have no doubt there will be a lot more laughter in Heaven now that those two are reunited! Fly high Ron! And please give my daddy a kiss for me💗

I am so sorry and sad to hear of Ron's passing. He was the very first person I met when I moved here and didn't know anyone. He was always so nice to me and I enjoyed seeing him at PM when I worked. My heart breaks for you and May God Bless you all.
