Service Details

Michael Lloyd Clouser passed peacefully on January 19, 2021 in Des Moines, Iowa at the age of 74.

Mike was born on March 6, 1946 to Robert and Leona (Mindemann) Clouser in Ames, Iowa. He grew up on a farm north of Ames, graduating from Gilbert Community Schools. He attended Iowa State University earning a Business Degree in May of 1968.

While at Iowa State, he met his wife Susan. They married on March 22, 1969 and enjoyed 51+ years of marriage. Shortly after their marriage they moved to Chicago, and then Benicia, California to follow Mike’s career in Sales. While in California, they welcomed two children into their lives, Mark and Scott.

In late 1977, an opportunity to go into business for themselves appeared. They moved the family to Coon Rapids, Iowa and purchased what became Coon Rapids Farm & Home. This business was well known across West Central Iowa. Mike passed his passion and joy of selling on to both of his sons.

While running the business, Mike was also very involved in the community. He donated his time as a member of the Chamber of Commerce, Community Betterment Group, Athletic Boosters, Rotary Club, Volunteer Fire Department and Golf Course Board. While only living 17 years in Coon Rapids, he still refers to it as his “Hometown”.

In 1994, they moved to the Des Moines metro area. Mike continued his selling career with Royal Brass and Hose, where he earned numerous awards and recognitions. He retired in 2016.

Mike enjoyed travelling, reading, playing golf, playing cards, spending time on a lake and a cold beverage being served with “lots of ice”. He loved entertaining and visiting with his friends.

Mike had the smile and laugh that changed a room from the time he entered it. He had the gift of story telling and welcomed many into his circle. His grandchildren remember him with his warm welcomes, big hugs and as a master malt maker.

Mike is survived by his wife Susan of West Des Moines, sons Mark (Angela) Clouser of Waukee, Scott (Amanda) of Adel, his grandchildren Grace, Emily, Colin and Makenzie. He is preceded in death by his parents, and a sister Janet.

At Mike’s request, no services will be held. He asks that when you think of him to smile and raise a toast in his memory to the good times shared. Condolences can be sent to the family at: Michael Clouser Family, 15920 Hickman Road Suite 400, PMB#285, Clive, Iowa 50325.
