Richard Bishop, Sr., age 79, passed away on Tuesday, January 19, 2021, at EveryStep Kavanagh House in Des Moines. He was born the son of Doyle and Virgie Bishop on January 25, 1941 in Indianola, Iowa.

He married Judy Kenoyer on July 29, 1962. Richard retired from Western International after 30 years. He then worked 19 years at Smart Industries as a sheet metal fabricator. Richard loved to spend time with his family. He taught them that greatness comes out of humility.

Survived by wife of 58 years, Judy; children; Laura (Ed) Shoemaker, Richard L. (Amy) Bishop Jr., Rusty (Cynthia) Bishop; grandchildren; Jacob (Jennifer), Joey (Sam Daly), September (Andy), Tanner (Loan), Reagan, Kylee, and Courtney; great grandchildren, Tanner and Emma; siblings, Bob Bishop, Kathy (John) Evans, Kay Netley, Ralph (Lois) Bishop and many nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Charlotte who passed away at birth; two brothers, Doyle “Gene” Bishop and James "Jim" Bishop, Sr.

Visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m., with funeral service to begin at 11 a.m., Monday, January 25, 2021 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Interment will follow at Elm Grove Cemetery.
