Ann (Coyle) Griffin
January 18, 2021
Ann (Coyle) Griffin passed away unexpectedly at home on January 18, 2021. Ann was born on September 6, 1951, the beloved daughter of DeWitte and LaVonne (Chew) Coyle in Osceola, IA.
After Ann was born, her family moved to Des Moines, and Ann became a true southsider when her father opened a barbershop at SW 9th and Broad. She loved growing up on the south side, attending Park Avenue Grade School and graduating from Abraham Lincoln High School in 1969. Ann continued her education at Iowa Lutheran School of Nursing and began a lifetime career in various nursing capacities. She found passion in her nursing career, working in the treatment of substance abuse, and helping others. Ann herself was a proud member of Narcotics Anonymous.
She married her best friend, Denny Griffin, on July 13, 1991, and they made their home in Urbandale, IA. After Ann and Denny retired, they enjoyed spending time together in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. She filled her days by reading and relaxing in the sun, sailing in Banderas Bay, making new friends, and taking sightseeing trips. Ann loved the variety of cuisine choices available at the many great restaurants in Mexico. She treasured spending time with her family and entertained many of them in Puerto Vallarta.
Ann is survived by her husband and love of her life, Denny, and their beloved fur-baby, Lucy who was always at her side; her brother-in-law, Steve (Judy) Griffin of Altoona; sister-in-law, Sue (Mike) Shroyer of Albia; five nieces and nephews, twelve grand-nieces and nephews, and four great-grand-nieces and nephews; and her many cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, DeWitte and LaVonne Coyle; and grand-niece, Kinsley Grace Burress.
Due to Covid-19, no service is planned. However, there will be a celebration of her life at a later date.
The family has chosen two special organizations for memorials: Tuberous Sclerosis Alliance and/or National Multiple Sclerosis Society, as a niece and grand-niece suffer from these conditions.
