Jerry R. Hilton

Jerry Hilton, 75, passed away on January 17, 2021 at the Iowa Jewish Senior Living Center in Des Moines, IA. He was born April 9, 1945 in Des Moines.
He graduated from Winterset High School in 1963 and continued his education at Buena Vista College graduating with a degree in Social Science in 1967. Jerry enlisted in the United States Army on March 14, 1968 where he served honorably until his discharge on March 13, 1970. He was united in marriage to Joan Loftus and to this union two children were born, Brian and Adrian. They later separated. Jerry worked as a Tax Specialist for the Iowa Department of Revenue and Finance for over 30 years. He retired in 2006.
Jerry enjoyed listening to the Iowa Hawkeyes and all Iowa sports on the radio. He enjoyed watching War documentaries, studying American history and drinking cherry coke. He loved model trains. Spending time with his family was his most favorite thing to do, especially with his granddaughter.
He is survived by his sons, Brian (Amanda) Hilton and Adrian Hilton; his granddaughter, Riley Hilton; brother, Larry (Pat) Hilton; and niece, Angie Deakman.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be held Monday, January 25, 2021 from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. at Hamilton’s at Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines with service following at 1:00 p.m. Burial will follow at Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Van Meter.

I worked with Jerry at IDR. He knew his stuff and explained often-complicated tax code so customers understood. He was a nice man, truly.

I worked with Jerry at IDR. He was one of the most knowledgeable people I have ever met. I am saddened to hear of Jerry's passing.

I worked with your Dad at The Revenue Department for many years, he was a very nice guy. He always had a good attitude & he faithfully served many Iowans in Taxpayer Services. So sorry for your loss. Lifting up your family in my prayers.
