Owen Champlin, Sr.

Owen Edwin Champlin, Sr., 85, passed away January 17, 2021 at Westview of Indianola Care Center.
Owen was born November 9, 1935 in Nora, Nebraska to Edwin and Edith Champlin. He was a parts manager for Midwest Wheel for many years, retiring in 2000. He has been a musician his entire life, performing with multiple groups throughout the years. He played keyboard, lead guitar, bass, saxophone and clarinet. He was an avid fisherman, and if you couldn’t find him, he was at the river fishing. Owen enjoyed sharing his love of music and fishing with all of his grandchildren. He was an animal lover and loved spoiling his pets.
Owen is survived by his sister Leah Champlin, children, Owena Brannon, Owen Champlin, Jr. (Gail), Carol Schinker (David), Norman Springston (Renee), Phillip Stender (Casey), Timothy Springston, Lisa Lewis (Donnie), Eileene Bailey (Scott), Gina Lewis (Mark), Dirk Champlin and Kristin Champlin; 34 grandchildren; many, many great-grandchildren; and a host of extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by the love of his life and wife of 38 years, Patricia; grandson, Tracy Carpenter; and his parents.
The family will greet friends Friday, January 22, 2021 from 10 am to 12 pm with the funeral service to follow at 12 pm at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street. Owen will be laid to rest at Carlisle Cemetery in Carlisle, Iowa.
Memorial contributions may be directed to Suncrest Hospice or the Animal Rescue League of Iowa in loving memory of Owen.

Owen, you were a fine brother-in-law and was there for me when I was a teenager and lost my father. Your kindness and encouragement helped me through tough times more than you could ever know. May God accept you into heaven with the same humor you always showed me. Always a friend.
