Carol Dean Anderson, 79, passed away January 4, 2021 with her family by her side.
Services will be held Thursday, January 14, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at Hamilton's on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines with visitation one hour prior. Burial will follow at Iowa Veterans Cemetery near Van Meter at 12:30 p.m.
Carol was born January 30, 1941 in Marshalltown, Iowa to the late Lloyd and Olive (Keeler) Schreckhise. Her family moved to Des Moines when she was 8 years old and she graduated from East High School in 1959. Her first job was as a live-in nanny for a family near the Drake area. She then worked at Mercy Hospital as an Obstetrical Technician taking her training in the delivery room under the direction and supervision of Sister Mary Zita Brennan, R.S.M. and Mary R. Brick, R.N.
In 1962 in National City, CA she married Richard Lee Anderson (U.S. Navy) and they had two children. She traveled and lived in many places such as California, Guam and Japan as a proud Navy Wife and Mother. In 1971, she and her two children moved from California and settled back in Des Moines and she opened a daycare in her home so that she was able to stay at home while her children attended school. In 1980 she graduated from Americana Academy of Cosmetology and opened two hair salons. Later on she started a small business from home called "Seams Like Yesterday" performing sewing and crafts. She was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church.
Carol enjoyed spending time with family, drinking a margarita, baking/cooking, crocheting/knitting, birdwatching, gardening, shopping and her pride and joy cat (Jasmine Dawn).
She is survived by her two children, Kelli (Rick) Reeves and Mark Anderson; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild; nephews, Kevin and Rodney “Rod” Tribby; and niece, Theresa (Tribby) Hall.
Carol was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and sister, Beverly Jean Schreckhise.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to AHeinz57 Pet Rescue & Transport, 4002 Ash St., DeSoto, Iowa 50069 or to Taylor House Hospice for the loving care Carol received.
