Michael R. Kerr
January 02, 2021
Michael Roy Kerr, 72, passed away Saturday, January 2, 2021.
Mike was born November 5, 1948 in Des Moines, Iowa to Glen “Bob” and Margaret “Bill” (Killen) Kerr. He was a lifelong resident of the Des Moines area. Mike was a proud veteran of the United States Army. He devoted 36 years to John Deere where he worked as an inspector. Mike loved his job and made many lasting friendships there. One of his favorite things to do was to travel to California to visit his family a couple times a year. He always looked forward to those trips. Above all, Mike’s family was most important to him. He treasured time spent with all his family, and his grandchildren held a special place in his heart. They were his greatest joy. He loved doing everything with them, from attending their sporting events or taking them out to dinner. He will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his children, Kathi (Jeff) Phillips, Kyla (Rick) Johnson, and Mike Kerr, Jr.; grandchildren, Jordan, Aspen, Taylor, Logan, Carson, Katelynn (Justin), and Hayden; siblings, Nancy (Dick) Salyers, Jane Thompson, and Jimmy (Alice) Kerr; numerous nieces, nephews, other loving family members, and countless friends.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Glen “Bob” Kerr and Margaret “Bill” Kerr; brother, Larry “Duffer” Kerr; and brother-in-law, Galen Thompson.
A public visitation will be held 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 12, 2021 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. A private family burial will take place at Berwick Cemetery, Berwick, Iowa at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be directed to the Wounded Warrior Project in loving memory of Mike.

I am sorry to hear about Mike's passing. I always enjoyed visiting with him and hearing all of his stories about his time in the service, his family, working at John Deere, and about "old Bentley". May he rest in peace.

"Those were the days my friend we thought they'd never end" Oh what stories they would tell. My brother Leland and Mike were good friends back in the day and I was their alibi! And if you were to ask today I probably would still be. So very sorry for your families loss. Remember the past and cherish your memories.

We are so sorry to see that our dear friend Mike passed away. It doesnt come as a surprise because Mike called us in December when he was told he only had 30 days left on this earth.
Judy and I got to know Mike and Judy when we lived in Berwick beside them in the early seventies.
Mike has been a dear long distant friend ever since. As we would catch up about family and other things the topic would always go to John Deere. ( I have 3) We will always treasure the memories we made together.
God Bless,
Dennis and Judy Pickrel
