Marci Beth Tooman
January 01, 2021
Marci Beth Tooman died January 1, 2021 after a long and courageous hard-fought battle with breast cancer. She was born June 29, 1970 in Oscoda, Michigan to Dr. Marvin Tooman and Rev. Fayonne (Busch) Tooman.
In August of 1970, Marci received Holy Baptism and became a child of God. She attended Mount Olive Lutheran Church and School in Des Moines, Iowa attending grades 1st through 8th in the school. In 1984, Marci confessed her Christian faith at confirmation with her Mount Olive classmates. She graduated from Waukee High School in 1988, receiving high academic honors and enjoyed playing soccer, basketball and a variety of other activities. After high school, Marci enlisted in the Iowa Air National Guard, the 132nd, and eventually shifted to the Army National Guard stationed at Camp Dodge, Iowa. There she attended Officer Candidate School and then served as an officer until her retirement in 2014. At retirement, Marci had achieved the rank of Major and enjoyed serving as a JAG officer. She loved her military family.
In 1988, Marci attended Central College in Pella, Iowa where she met her husband, Aaron Hamrock. She and Aaron married June 25, 1994. Having graduated from Central in 1992, Marci attended Drake University in pursuit of a law degree. She successfully completed the degree LW’ 95 and passed the Iowa State Bar Exam in June of 1995. She practiced civilian and military law for several years.
Marci and Aaron adopted two wonderful sons, Samuel and Gabriel, from Armenia. As they grew, Marci decided to spend more time caring for her children and less time practicing law. She loved activities with her sons. They always had Adventureland season passes and treasured nights spent at the water park within the Adventureland Inn. Marci cherished travel with her family, and cheering the kids in their chosen sports.
Marci was preceded in death by her father, Marvin; and leaves behind Aaron Hamrock and sons, Samuel and Gabriel; her mother, Fayonne Tooman; and brothers, Aaron and Matthew; nephew, Tristan Tooman; and niece, Kennedy Tooman.
The family has planned a visitation for Thursday, January 7, 2021 from 5:30-6:45 p.m. and a memorial service on January 8, 2021 at 10 a.m. with both events taking place at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway located at 3601 Westtown Parkway in West Des Moines, Iowa. Marci will be buried with full military honors at a private ceremony at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery.
Marci and her family would like to give a special thank you to Dr. Thomas Buroker and his staff at Stoddard Cancer Center for all of the help that they have given her over the past 22 years.
Memorial donations can be sent to the John Stoddard Cancer Center.

Fayonne and family: I remember when Marci got in the Air Guard. Of course Marvin had a lirrle to do with that. I knew she had a lot to offer and of course for those reasons ended up in the Army Guard. Our condolences to you and family at this time.

My heartfelt condolences to your family. Pastor Tooman was my pastor for a time and will forever be a part of me so your sorrow is also felt by his "extended" family also. My thoughts and prayers and love are with you and yours.
