Marion Louise Thomas, age 94, formerly of West Des Moines, passed away Saturday, December 26, 2020 at Crestview Specialty Care Center in West Branch, Iowa.

Marion was born October 7, 1926 in St. Lucas, Iowa the daughter of Alfred and Edna Mitchell. Upon completion of her education, Marion moved to Waterloo, where she worked in the comptroller’s office at Rath Packing Company.

Marion met Paul Thomas and they were married at Sacred Heart Church in Waterloo, Iowa on October 8, 1951. They moved to West Des Moines in 1960. Marion was employed by Monarch Life Insurance Company in the Des Moines agency office, retiring as office manager in 1986.

Marion’s life was truly enriched by her faith, treasured members of immediate and extended family, and lifelong dear friends.

Marion was an active member of Sacred Heart Parish, where she participated in the Women’s Guild and the St. Vincent de Paul Society. During retirement, Marion enjoyed volunteering at church and in the community. She was an avid reader and bridge player. Above all, she loved spending time with her family.

Marion is survived by her two daughters, Sue Fett (Wayne) of Iowa City and Paula Love (Gary) of Ankeny. Marion is also survived by five grandchildren, Erin Pike (Evan), Courtney Johnson (Scott), Allison Davis (Ryan), Benjamin Love (Dakota Civita), and Stephanie Love; great-grandchildren, Tucker, Hudson, and Ellery Pike, Landry and Crew Johnson. In addition, Marion is survived by her brother, Donald Joseph Mitchell of Louisville, KY.

In addition to her parents, Marion was preceded in death by her husband, Paul in 2007; sisters, Margaret Mihm (Marinus) and Delores Blong (Donald); brothers, Bernard Mitchell (Bonnie) and Alfred Mitchell (Elaine); sister-in-law, Mary Ann Mitchell; and numerous extended family and close friends.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, January 7, 2021 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 1627 Grand Avenue, West Des Moines. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Resthaven Cemetery in West Des Moines.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be directed to Sacred Heart Church or St. Vincent de Paul Society.
