Ang Pang, age 80, of Des Moines, Iowa, passed away early Monday, December 21, 2020 in her home.

Ang was born on February 5, 1940 in Battambang, Cambodia to the late Pang Ang and Choun Ouht. She was the second to youngest of 12 children, 11 preceded her in death.

On January 1, 1957, Ang married Sareth Sam in Battambang, Cambodia. The couple made their home in Battambang where Sareth was a factory worker and Ang was a homemaker and seamstress. Together they had 8 children, 5 girls and 3 boys. Chak Sam, Chan Sam, Cheth Sam, Boun Sam, Eth Sam, Sin Sam, Kim Ean Sam, and Srouk Sam.

In 1975 when the Khmer Rouge invaded Cambodia, Ang and her family fled to Thailand to the refugee camps. After Thailand, they fled to the Philippines where they learned English until they were sponsored to come to America.

In 1983, her family moved to Indianola, Iowa for 1 year and shortly after they moved to Des Moines. Ang Pang worked at Steelworks but was known in her community as a seamstress. She loved to sew beautiful traditional outfits and tailored them to fit members of the Cambodian community. She also attended and helped with many traditional Buddhist ceremonies. During her spare time, she loved to play cards, fish, garden, cook, and spend quality time with her kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids.

She is survived by her husband, Sareth Sam; and her 3 sons, Chak Sam, Cheth Sam (Tida Peov) and Sin Sam (Chandahn). She is also survived by her 15 grandkids and 9 great-grandkids.

A visitation will be held at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens on Saturday, December 26, 2020 from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m.
