Service Details

M. Irene Huss, 81, went to be with the Lord on December 20, 2020. Irene was born at her childhood home on October 16, 1939, in Cincinnati, Iowa to her loving parents, Amyl and Russell Hutchinson. On July 4, 1959, she married Francis Huss. Until her retirement, she worked in data entry for various companies throughout the Des Moines metro area.

All who knew Irene recognized her life-long love of the outdoors. Irene and Francis enjoyed exploring the U.S. with their travel clubs (The Cyclone Country Ramblers and The Iowa Wild Rose Sam Club) in their motorhome. She loved animals and her own pets were never far from her, accompanying her many times while traveling.

Undoubtedly, Irene had quite a green thumb and always planted large vegetable gardens and openly shared her produce with all. She enjoyed bonfires and barbeques and never went empty handed – often bringing an indulgent dessert to share. Irene also loved cheering on her favorite sports teams (Especially Cyclone basketball), attending church and events with family and friends. She was also a magnificent seamstress and crafter who quilted beautiful blankets that she gifted to many throughout the years.

Irene was a dedicated spouse, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt and friend to so very many near and dear to her heart.

Irene is survived by her daughter, Ann (Mike) Maertens of Ankeny, IA; son, Duane (Stephanie) Huss of Spring Hill, KS; grandchildren, Eric, Sarah (Aaron), Alexander (Shu), Jennifer (Nicholas) and Tyler; great grandchildren, Liliana, E.J., Triston, Alivia, Jackson, Eli, Ariana and Brielle; sister, Mary Ann (Jerry) Johnson of Blue Springs, MO. She is also survived by many extended family members and cherished friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Francis; brother, Charles and parents, Russell and Amyl Hutchison.

Visitation will be at 10:00 a.m., Monday, December 28, 2020. Immediately followed by the funeral services, at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Ave., Des Moines, IA. Burial service will follow at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery.

In lieu of gifts, memorial contributions may be made to Unity Pointe Taylor House Hospice, in loving memory of Irene Huss and the wonderful care she received while in their care.
