Donna Kingkade

Donna Marie Kingkade, 92, passed away December 19, 2020 at Prairie Vista Village in Altoona.

Donna was born March 23, 1928 in Rock Island County, Illinois, to Harry and Blanche (Altman) Secrist. She was the oldest of 4 children. Donna grew up and graduated from Muscatine High School with the class of 1945. After school she worked as a bookkeeper at Steins Furniture Store in Muscatine. Donna married William Kingkade on June 10, 1956 and moved to Des Moines. Living in Des Moines, she began working for Syntex, formerly known as Diamond Laboratory.

Donna was always doing some type of crafting. She liked to keep busy. Donna enjoyed crocheting, sewing, quilting, and baking. She was known for her crocheted baby blankets, afghans, potholders and scrubbers to name a few items. Donna made sure each child and grandchildren received her handmade gifts of love over the years.

Donna liked to cook and bake. Whenever there was a need for sweet treats Grandma was the one to call. Cookies, bars, cheesecake- Grandma would bake it. Family gatherings, you went to Grandma to put in your request. Potato salad was another food that was requested. No one could make potato salad like Mom/Grandma.

She loved going to her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren events and activities. She was their biggest fan. Spoiling her grandchildren and great-grandchildren was the highlight of her life.

Donna will be remembered for her independent spirit, kind-heart and creativity. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She will be greatly missed and forever loved by her family.

Donna is survived by her 3 children, Kim (Kimmie) Kingkade, Mark (Rosie) Kingkade and Melissa (Tony) Onstot; grandchildren, Justin (Lisa) Kingkade, Jeremy (Ravyn) Kingkade, Tyler Kingkade, Clayton Kingkade, Anthony (Jill) Onstot and Lukas (Nikki) Onstot; great-grandchildren, Aaden, Liam, Jayce, Delaina, Bowen, Adalynn, Audree and Dexter; sisters, Harriett Harmon, Lois (Dale) Zeug, and Bonnie Tietje; and a host of extended family and dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, William.

A private interment will be held at Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
