Neal Smith

Heaven gained an exceptional angel on Saturday, December 19, 2020. Neal Smith, 62, passed away peacefully at Taylor House Hospice from advanced Parkinson’s-MSA. Neal was the son of Larry and Sally (Crouch) Smith.
Neal was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan, he enjoyed bird watching and hunting, trains and indulging in any type of sweets – especially ice cream. He loved the weather and his 2nd unpaid “job” was a meteorologist. He worked at MidAmerican Energy for almost 30 years. But above all, he treasured time spent with his family, especially cheering on his girls at their many activities throughout the years.
His family left to cherish Neal’s memories are his wife, Jenifer; daughters, Kelly (Matt) Trissler, Cari (Brett) Toncar and Janie (fiancé Nathan O’Neill) Smith; grandchildren, Brynn, Mya and Brooks; parents, Larry and Sally Smith; siblings, Steve (JoAnn) Smith, Mike (Darlene) Smith, Dale (Deb) Smith, Matt (fiancé Michelle) Smith and Teresa (Rick) Heldt; numerous nieces and nephews, and other loving relatives and many special friends.
Services will be held on Tuesday, December 29, 2020 at10:00 a.m., at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, 15 Indianola Road, Des Moines. Visitation will take place at
Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street, Des Moines on Monday, December 28, 2020 from 5:00 -7:00p.m.
Memorial contributions may be directed to Taylor House Hospice or St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in loving memory of Neal.

If you have ever known someone who brightened every room they walked into, you knew Neal Smith. No matter how hectic or bad my day was going, a quick encounter with Neal and my attitude would be readjusted. Rest in peace my friend

My condolences to you all. I have so many fond memories of our time as a softball family. Neal was an awesome Handyman, Doctor and any other thing that the girls needed he was there. He was truly a gift from Above! He will be greatly missed. May he rest in peace and guide you all from above.
