Darleen Lyn Witzel, age 46, passed away at her home on Wednesday, December 16, 2020, surrounded by her loving family. Darleen was born the daughter of Sharon Worthington and Richard VanVlair on August 26, 1974 in Des Moines, Iowa. Darleen loved being a nurse and enjoyed taking care of people. She was a big dog lover, especially when it came to her St. Bernard, Tank. Darleen will be remembered most by her generosity and having a heart of gold. Above all else, she treasured time spent with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Those left behind to cherish her memory include her loving husband, Randy Witzel; children, Amanda (Taylor) Pappas, Kaitlyn (Andrew) Kingery, Taylor (Hilary) Witzel, Christian (Maddie C.) Witzel, Tylor Witzel and Bailey Witzel; grandchildren, Brandon, Serena, Bentley, Twila, Savannah and Abigail; siblings, Valerie and Jeff VanVlair; and other loving relatives and many special friends.
Darleen was preceded in death by her son, Brandon Martin; and her parents, Sharon Worthington and Richard VanVlair.
Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., with funeral service to begin at 12 p.m., Tuesday, January 12, 2021 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Inurnment will follow at Iowa Veterans Cemetery, Van Meter.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the Animal Rescue League in memory of Darleen.

Gary and I and our family, send our deepest condolences. We remember Darleen talking about and loving her children, grandchildren, husband and all family so much. We also saw her love of her dogs. Rest in Peace Darleen, we will miss you and we will be thinking of our good memories we shared with you.

Family, I was so happy to have chatted on FB and found Darleen. She accepted me as her cousin right away and that is wonderful when I have searched for my bio family most of my life. She was so like myself. Love and hugs to the family and hope to meet you all someday!
