Karen O’Bryan, age 79, passed away Monday, December 14, 2020 at MercyOne Des Moines Medical Center. She was born on January 28, 1941 in Des Moines, Iowa. Cooking was one of her joys, and she loved inviting her family over for good food and great company. Karen was a big animal lover and adored her two cats, Dusty and Amos.

She is survived by her children, Richard Allen, Kelly O’Bryan, and David (Dani) O’Bryan; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; brothers, Karl (Margaret) Irwin and Marshall “Theo” (Kathy) Irwin; best friend, Lori; and other loving relatives and many special friends.

Karen was preceded in death by her infant son, Michael Kermit; her son, Billy O’Bryan; her parents, Kermit and Audrey (Hefner) Irwin; the father of her children, Kenny O’Bryan; and the love of her life, Merlin Hurley.
Cremation will occur with no services planned at this time.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be directed to the Animal Rescue League in loving memory of Karen.
