Max Ahl, 83, passed away December 14, 2020 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center of congestive heart failure. Max was born in Adair County, Iowa to Leonard and Vera (Jacobson) Ahl on April 3rd, 1937.
Max was born and raised in rural Adair County where he participated in 4-H, played football and graduated from Greenfield High School. He joined the Army in 1955 and completed Radar Repair School. He proudly served for 3 years and received a Good Conduct Medal. He continued his education at AIB and Drake Universities completing his Bachelor's degree in Accounting.

He also enjoyed many bowling and dart leagues through the years. For the last 12 years he went daily to the Pioneer Columbus Senior Center where he enjoyed playing bingo and handing out candy.
His favorite thing to do was be with his family. He spent many years in the Y-Indian Princess program with both of his daughters. He also enjoyed spending time with his grandsons and great-grandson. He loved going to the cabin with his girls and also enjoyed fishing. His passion was Drake sports especially Drake Football where he held season tickets for over 45 years.
Max is survived by his daughters Sherry Hall (Ed Needels) and Shelly Kouri; grandsons Austin Ahl-Jones, Dalton Hall, Spencer Hall, and LJ Kouri; and one great grandson Kaison Ahl. He was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Vera; and his sister Marilyn (Bob) Schenk.

To the Ahl family,
The 4 Ackerlund sisters send their sympathy to you. Max's dad was a first cousin to our dad - Leonard Ackerlund. The two couples enjoyed many good times together. We enjoyed getting together with Max, Marilyn and their parents at reunions many years ago.
Our thoughts are with you at this difficult time.

I am sooo sad to hear of Max passing. I met Max at Pioneer Columbus Senior Center. He was such a nice and very thoughtful man. I looked forward to seeing him everyday at the center until Covid. Max always brought candy everyday and shared with all seniors. He always dressed as Santa at Christmas time. I enjoyed his company and conversations with him. My condolences goes out to the entire Ahl family. Thank you Shelly for everything you did at the senior center. Your dad was so proud of you! Max will be truly missed!

In memory of a wonderful Uncle who always had a mischievious smile, hug, funny story, and piece of candy for us Schenk kids. His cheerfulness was infectious. You will be missed. Love to all the family. Lynn, Kelly and Greg Schenk

Ahhhh Max. How many years did we spend pumping pine together at Christmastime? Smiling, laughing, humming along with the endless loop tape of Beryl Ives singing Christmas tunes. LJ and I trading good natured barbs with you while we also drove you crazy with our "accounting". You are a good man, Max Ahl. I'm a better person from knowing you. Rest easy, big guy. We will remember you always.

My condolences go out to his daughters, their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. I thank the Lord for his dedicated service, interest in the best for others, and the betterment of our community. We will remember his happy spirit and chuckle as he told a good story.
