Karen Christenson
December 13, 2020
Karen M. Christenson, 77, peacefully passed away in her home on December 13, 2020, with her loving family by her side. She was born in Des Moines on January 18, 1943, to John and Anne Kinsey.
Karen married Dan Christenson October 1960 and they were blessed with three sons. She was a devoted wife, a loving mother and grandmother, a hard worker, and one amazing cook.
Karen took great pride in her home and family. Her selfless nature, along with her willingness to always make time for others, made those she interacted with feel valued and important.
Karen enjoyed shopping and collecting dolls, but nothing brought her more joy than spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and new great-grandson.
Karen is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Dan; sons, Ray (Michelle), Steve (Kristine), and Mike (Michelle); grandchildren, Bethany (Josh), Shane (Elizabeth), Sierra, Nate (Elizabeth), and Leigha; great-grandson, Rivers; as well as her brother, John (Barb). In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Roger, and sister, Kathy.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, December 18, 2020, at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Ave. in Des Moines with burial to follow at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery. The family will receive visitors at the funeral home Thursday evening from 5-7 p.m.
The family requests masks be worn and social distancing is encouraged.

For Danny and family: I am so sorry to hear of the loss of Karen. My sympathy to you all. While we were never close growing up due to a couple of year age difference she was always there for family reunions and get togethers and I always enjoyed talking to her. She is and will remain a dear cousin. We were out of town last week and could not attend the services but I will watch the video. Time will heal and great memories will remain.

To the Family and Friends of Karen Christenson, Karen was a very special lady. She was always so kind to me when I would see her at my Aunt Ruth and Uncle Bob Kinsey's or out and about in Johnston. She would always take the time to talk to me and we would catch up. She was so pretty and had the best smile! I'll miss you Karen. I am thinking of all of her family and friends. I was blessed to know Karen.

Karen will be greatly missed. She gave us a legacy on how to give of ourselves and the importance of being family strong. Bringing family and friends together through 4th of July picnics, wedding and baby showers, her unending sharing of her time and love has given us an example to live by. I will miss her quiet voice, her steadfastness. She has made such a positive impact on my life as well as I know others, that her passing will be felt for a long time. My deepest condolences to Dan and family. Wishing I could be there with you all.
