Connie R. Short

Connie Short, 65, of Ankeny, the mother of Kelvin Short; the daughter of Raymond and Winifred (Hansen) Perion; died on August 29, 2009 at Taylor Hospice House in Des Moines, following an eight year battle with ovarian cancer. She was born on July 6, 1944 in Clinton, Iowa. Connie was employed at Dee Zee Manufacturing for 20 years.
Connie graduated from Northeast High School, Goose Lake, IA in 1962, where she enjoyed basketball and softball. Connie was an active volunteer with Special Olympics of Iowa and joined several walks to cure cancer. She was employed by Dee Zee Manufacturing for 20 years and was employee of the month. Connie shared her life with her beloved sister, Rita for the last 18 years in Ankeny.
Survivors include her son, Kelvin (LuAnn) Short of Clinton, IA; a granddaughter; two grandsons; four great- grandchildren; a sister, Rita Gordon of Ankeny, IA; two brothers, John (Betty) Perion of Clinton, IA, and Larry (Laurel) Perion of Dickenson, TX; several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, and one brother, Robert.
A visitation will be held 4 – 7 pm, Tuesday, September 1, 2009 at Hamilton's near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Ave., Des Moines. A memorial service will be held 4-7 p.m. Thursday, September 3, 2009 at Pape Funeral Home, Clinton, Iowa with burial being held at Assumption Cemetery in Charlotte, IA.
The family would like to thank many friends and relatives who visited and cared for Connie.
Memorials can be made to Mercy Cancer Center to replenish hats and turbans for cancer patients.
