Rachel M. Green

Rachel M. Green, 91, passed away peacefully Friday, August 28, 2009 at Mercy Hospital Medical Center in Des Moines. Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 1, 2009 at Hamilton's Funeral Home, 605 Lyon St. in Des Moines, with burial at Laurel Hill Cemetery.
Rachel was born October 24, 1917 to Margaret and Arthur Panell in Kewanee, IL. She faithfully attended Central Assembly of God. She thoroughly enjoyed going to church and reading her bible. She loved her bird, Thumper; and she was a foster grandma for over 17 years at Lucas Elementary School, where she was lovingly known to hundreds of students as "Grandma Green."
Rachel is survived by her children: Delbert (Phyllis) Weatherly, Delores Whisenhand, Joe Brown, Jerry (Tammy) Green, Tom (Sharon) Green, Patricia (Bill) Wailand, Lou Ann Green, and Jim (Keiko Sampson) Green; her daughter-in-law, Jeanette DeMoss; 36 grandchildren; 75 great-grandchildren; and 20 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse; her parents; her son, Art Weatherly; her son-in-law Larry Whisenhand; her brother, George Mortell; and her sister, Susie Slezka.
Visitation will be 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Monday, August 31, 2009 at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Central Assembly of God in loving memory of Rachel.
