William Stanley (Stan) Cain, age 84, of Norwalk, IA died August 29, 2009 from cancer.
Stan was born on August 1, 1925 to Blanche (Perry) and William Cain, in Afton, IA. Stan graduated from Lorimor High School in 1942 at the early age of 16. He lived in the Des Moines area most of his life.
Stan joined the U.S. Navy in 1943 to proudly serve in WWII. He was commissioned on the USS Dashiell, a Destroyer, in the South Pacific most of the war.
Stan married the love of his life, Doris Lamb in February 1947. They had three children and were married 49 years at the time of Doris' death in 1996.
After the war, he became a painter and then went into trucking. He had a very long and successful career as a truck driver and received numerous safe driving awards. He joined Ace Lines as an independent trucker in 1962 and retired in 1983. He remained active after retirement.
Stan will be remembered as a kind, friendly, soft-spoken man with a very big heart that liked to bring joy and laughter to those around him. He was handy at fixing almost anything. He had a love for family, animals and cars
Stan is survived by three children: Robert Cain (Judy) of Norwalk; Mark Cain (Coleen) of West Des Moines and Barbara Williams (David) of Austin, TX; a sister, Charlotte Bagley of Iowa City; four grandchildren, Tammy, Tim, Heather and Matt; three great-grandchildren, Ethan, Benjamin and William, plus many nieces, nephews, in-laws and friends and his special cat, Katy.
Per his request, a graveside service and burial will be held at Glendale Cemetery on Wednesday, September 2, 2009 at 11 AM. Military honors will be given.
