John F. Blanchard

John F. Blanchard, 77, died peacefully Wednesday, August 19, 2009 at his home. Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, August 22, 2009 at Hamilton's Funeral Home, 605 Lyon St. in Des Moines, with burial at Laurel Hill Cemetery.
John was born August 7, 1932 to Frances and John E. Blanchard in Madrid, IA. He worked as a laborer at Farmers Grain in Avon until his retirement. He was a proud veteran of the United States Army. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and going to Prairie Meadows.
John is survived by his loving wife, Velma; his children: John, Greg, Diane (Carl Peterson) Brown, and Ginger (Scott) Patterson; his brothers: Stanley and Roger; his sister Judy Rippinger; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and five sisters.
Visitation will be 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Friday, August 21, 2009 at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the family in loving memory of John.
