Dorothy Anderson
August 06, 2009
Dorothy L. Anderson entered into eternal rest on August 6, 2009. She was born in Abilene, South Dakota and later moved to Afton, Iowa where she spent her childhood. Dorothy was quite an athlete as a child and excelled in basketball and softball.
Dorothy moved to Des Moines after she graduated from High School which is where she married her loving husband, Oscar. She and Oscar had four children. Dorothy worked for LOOK Magazine for 17 years as a dressograph operator. She loved working in her vegetable and flower gardens. Dorothy was an excellent cook; her specialties were fried chicken and apple pie. Her family has fond memories of vacations even though they could not afford them at the time.
Dorothy was a cancer survivor. She beat all odds. She was once bitten by a rattlesnake and broke her back by falling out of a tree.
She was preceded in death by her husband Oscar V. “Swede” Anderson, brother, Kenneth Julien; and her parents, Asa and Margaret Julien.
Dorothy will be dearly missed by her children, Joyce (Dean) Goforth, Larry (Janene) Anderson, Paul (Linda) Anderson and Robert (Diana) Anderson; sisters, Irene Swabb of Boulder City, NV and Bernetta Willis of Houston, MO; 11 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, September 4, 2009 at Hamilton's Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, with burial at Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

I would like to express my deepest sympathy on the loss of your loved one. Please accept the following words of encouragement. John 5:21,28,29 "Just as the father raises the dead up and makes them alive, so the Son also makes those alive whom he wants to. Do not marvel at this, because the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear hi (Jesus') voice and come out." Yes the bible promises us we will be with our loved ones again.
