Evan D. Edwards of Scottsdale, Arizona, formally of Des Moines, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, August 11, 2009, at the age of 64. He was born and raised in Des Moines, Iowa. Evan was the eldest son of Russell and Dorothy Edwards. He was formally married to Diane Baker of Albia, Iowa. To this union he had three children, Renee Sawyer, Ross Edwards, and Robyn Edwards.
In 1991, he married Linda Brunsvold and to this union they had one son, Russell Edwards. He is also survived in death by his step-daughter Shelly Wander, step-son Stacy Jordahl, brother Loren Edwards, sister Janett Edwards, and 10 grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, his son, Ross Edwards, and his granddaughter, Samantha Sawyer.
Evan retired from the United States Air Force in 1983. Evan was a Vietnam Veteran, taking many missions into the jungles of Southeast Asia in search of crashed fighter jet components. Towards the end of his Air Force career, he received many awards as top recruiter in the nation.
Until his recent retirement, he operated his own very successful estate-planning business as CEO of E.D. Edwards & Associates, formally known as Estate Planning Services, LLC.
Evan was a family man. He loved, supported and provided well for them. He had a knack of working people and spent many hours as a DJ and working at KIOA Radio in Des Moines. He was also an avid sports fan, especially his love for baseball. Baseball was a life-long interest beginning with sports pages, baseball cards, little league, high school, including the Air Force, as well as, other leagues. His love of the game was later portrayed in his exceptional umpiring and coaching. One of his greatest joys was coaching his sons through Little League and All-Stars. Along with coaching, he sponsored many baseball and softball leagues. Evan lived life to the fullest in every way. He received many awards as a successful sales person and was a person you would never forget once you met him. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
Viewing will be held at Hamilton's Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street, on Wednesday, August 19, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Services will be held on Thursday, August 20, at 10 a.m. at Hamilton's followed by a graveside service at Sunset Memorial Gardens on 7601 Fleur Drive, Des Moines.
