Gary was born October 11, 1941 in Bode, Iowa to Leif and Marge Larson. He graduated from North High School in Des Moines in 1959 and attended Grand View College. He was a lifelong resident of the Des Moines area. Gary was employed by John Deere from 1963 to 1997, when he retired.

He always enjoyed taking his ladies out and going dancing. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, and especially his good friend, Marilyn Doyle.
Gary is survived by his son, Michael Curtis Larson; step-sisters, Tena Spencer and Joanne Heimbach; and many nieces and nephews.

Gary and I were long time friends. We shared a few adult beverages over the years and engaged in not too deep dialogue. That was what made our visits interesting. He was a most enjoyable conversationalist and an equally good listener. R.I.P., pal.

I am sorry for your loss. Gary was a good friend to me and so many others - he was always supportive but didnt hesitate to be honest to move me forward if I needed that. I loved hearing about the early years for him and Jeanie and then Mike. He talked lovingly about his grandparents. He always enjoyed his North alumni. He had so much fun the last few years with his Marilyn. He will sure be missed with his great laugh, smile and twinkle in his eye.

Mike, just want to let you know you are in my thoughts and prayers. Remember John 3:16-17 For God loved the world so much that he gave his one and only son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. God sent his Son into the world not to judge the world, but to save the world through him.
I know this verse is used alot...but it also says alot in just a few words.
Love your cousin, Michelle (Heimbach) Burtis

Dear Michael, Tena, Joanne, and family:
On behalf of the North High class of 1959, we want to express our most sincere condolences at the passing of our good friend and classmate Gary L Larsen. It is always sad to lose a friend and a classmate like Gary. He had such a keen sense of humor and was always so positive and upbeat. If Gary had any enemies in school I sure didnt know any of them, because everyone loved to be around Gary. He always had a cool haircut and could be counted on as a good friend and a person you wanted to be around. The last several years, I so much looked forward to sitting by Gary at our monthly NHS 59 Mens Luncheons and visting with him about his Friday nights at the VFW Post 9662, his golfing experiences, or his opinions about various topics of interest. It seems like only yesterday we were all walking the halls and having fun together looking forward to what lied ahead.
Our thoughts and prayers will be with each of you in the days that lie ahead.
