John Robert "Bob" Bahr
December 06, 2020
John Robert (Bob) Bahr, a loving husband, father, papa, brother, uncle and nephew passed away on December 6, 2020 in Des Moines, Iowa, at the age of 62, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
He was born on September 20, 1958, in Alamosa, Colorado, to John Gregory Bahr and Barbara Fae Kelly. He grew up on the family farm and ranch in La Jara, Colorado. Bob graduated from Centauri High School in 1976, and then served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from 1976 to 1978 in Virginia and West Virginia.
On December 18, 1980, he married Brenda Sue Parker in the Manti Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Bob and Brenda raised their three children, Jared, Jason and Jessica, in West Des Moines, Iowa. Bob is survived by his wife, Brenda, son John Jared Bahr and his wife Angela of Des Moines, Iowa; son Jason Robert Bahr and his wife Caitlin of Colorado Springs, Colorado; and daughter Jessica Roberts and husband Bryce of Grimes, Iowa. He is also survived by grandchildren Felix Michael Bahr, Stella Sue Roberts, Jet James Roberts and Lottie LaRene Roberts. Siblings, Mark Bahr and his wife Judy; and JoAn Waudby and her husband Kenneth of La Jara, Colorado and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and aunts.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents Greg and Barbara Bahr, older brother Steven James Bahr, and his nephew Reece Scout Waugh. Also, by his beloved Uncle John and Aunt Virginia Kelly.
At Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah, he earned Bachelor’s degrees in Farm and Ranch Management and Economics. He then proceeded to earn a Master’s Degree in Ag-Economics at Purdue University. He started out his career at Pioneer Hi-Bred International/Corteva Agriscience behind a desk, but was soon sent around the world to help manage seed production. He fully enjoyed his 35 years working. Bob Bahr, also known as “Bottom Line Bahr”, is well known for his negotiating skills, uncanny ability to find mistakes in spread sheets within minutes, and love of good food. Many enjoyed food prepared by Bob, especially his carnitas.
Bob was active in his church and scouting programs. He led many high adventure canoeing and camping trips and helped hundreds of young men earn their Eagle Scout awards. He prepared many young men and young women to serve missions for the church as a priesthood leader and then Bishop of the Walnut Hills ward.
Bob enjoyed skiing, driving in the mountains, fly fishing, grilling, watching most sports, especially BYU. He immensely enjoyed his yard and worked hard to make it a beautiful place. His greatest joy was spending time with his grandkids. Though he was unable to play with them towards the end of his life, he loved them dearly. He also enjoyed wrestling with and teasing all other kids, never minding a bit whether they feared him, and most were scared of him, because he knew they would always come back for more. Those same kids grew up loving him and his continued influence in their lives.
Arrangements are through Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway of West Des Moines, Iowa, and Rogers Family Mortuary of Alamosa, Colorado. A funeral service will be streamed on Saturday December 12, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. Central time from the link below.
The dedication of the grave will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, December 14, 2020 at the La Jara, Colorado Cemetery.
Any donations to the family will be made to the Perpetual Education Fund of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, which gives educational opportunities to students around the world.

I am very sorry to hear of Bob's passing. I spent quite a few days skiing weekends in the Austrian Alps with Bob. We would argue politics on the chair lifts and in the chalets. I could never convince him he was wrong. I enjoyed working with him those many years.

i am so sad to hear of Bob's passing and my wife Barb and I share our deepest sympathies. I enjoyed working with Bob over the years and always respected his intellect and values. In addition to his many individual contributions to the success of Pioneer/Corteva, his legacy is enhanced by his ability to recruit talent into the organization. Bob will be missed.

Brenda and family, I worked w Bob quite a few years ago. He hired me as an admin assistant into the Pioneer family. I truly enjoyed working with Bob, he was a taskmaster, always honest and fair. He challenged me like no other. I was always amazed at his incredible mind, especially with numbers. He was always harder on himself than others. I remember many stories but the one topic we most often spoke on was the high regard he held for a college education. I challenged him saying education doesn't stop with a certificate. Its the days after that show the quality of a person. Most of his hires help these values and there were a few... I arranged countless international trips for him, he was always in demand. One of those trips was when his father passed. We worked hard to get him home as quickly as possible while he handled the family side of things from far away. He was devoted to his family and religion which he guarded very closely. His family was everything to him. He performed the Eagle Scout ceremony for my son Cory. I remember being in Bob and Brenda's home and how welcoming they were. God bless you Bahr family. God has most certainly received a special angel.
Love to you,
Terrie Webb
