John "Joe" Muñoz

John “Joe” Muñoz, 84, passed away at his home on December 5, 2020.

Joe was born December 13, 1935 in West Des Moines to Donaciano and Mary (Barcena) Muñoz. He served in the U.S. Marines Corps. Joe retired from Monarch, where he worked as a welder for 49 years. He was a member of the Cambridge United Methodist Church and American Legion Hispanic Post #731.

Joe is survived by his children, David (Michelle) Muñoz, Linda Muñoz and Bobby (Korbi) Muñoz; grandchildren, Tony (Kaylynn) Muñoz, Heather (Nick) Anderson, Joseph Muñoz, Kade Muñoz (deployed USMC), Krey (Jordan) Keeney and Mallory (William) Tollefson; brothers, John Muñoz and Phillip (Evelyn) Muñoz; sister, Mary Pritchard; and a host of extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and nine siblings.

The family will greet friends Tuesday, December 15, 2020 from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. with the funeral service to follow at 12:30 p.m. at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street. Joe will be laid to rest with military honors Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. at Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Van Meter.
