Beverly Ann Whitney
December 04, 2020
Beverly A. Whitney, 84, was born May 6, 1936, in Des Moines, Iowa, to Russell Kline and Dorothy (Godwin) Kline-Hamell.
Beverly grew up in Des Moines, and she graduated from East High School. She married Gordon Whitney, the love of her life, on June 25, 1955. They raised their four children, and enjoyed family time such as camping trips and going to drive-in movies in their station wagon. Bev deeply loved her family and friends and they loved her. One of the quickest ways to bring a cheerful smile to Bev’s face would be to ask her about her family. Being their biggest fan, she went to each and every activity for her grandchildren. She enjoyed family time, baking, crocheting, and crafting. She lovingly crocheted an afghan for each of her children and grandchildren. Each of us treasure her handmade gifts of love. Bev was an extraordinary cook and baker and delighted in generously sharing her recipes and treats with everyone. She hosted countless holiday and birthday get-togethers, and relished every opportunity to create fond, lasting memories for her family. In their golden years, Gordon and Bev hosted sleepovers, took their grandchildren camping, and traveled south during the winter months in their RV. Her home church was New Hope Assembly of God. She loved the Lord and was devout in her Christian faith. It gives us comfort to know our parents are now reunited in their heavenly home, hand-in-hand.
Bev was a devoted and loving stay-at-home mom. Later, she worked at Baker Mechanical and then at Pioneer Hi-Bred International. She enjoyed her time there until she retired.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Gordon with whom she shared 58 years of marriage, and her sister JoAnn Titus.
Bev is survived by her four children: Brent (Terry) Whitney, Kurt (Susan) Whitney, Kimberly (Kim) Kingkade, Rachelle “Shelley” (Terry) Coomes; nine grandchildren (Trisha, Justin, Bryan, Jeremy, Russell, Greg, Ryan, Lindsey, Natalie); ten great-grandchildren (Amelia, Aaden, Hannah, Liam, Hunter, Clara, Jayce, Delaina, Adalinn, Tabitha); and her sister Sandy (Harry) Jeffries.
Bev peacefully passed away on December 4, 2020 with family at her side and went to her heavenly home to be with her Savior Jesus Christ.
Along with her children, Bev leaves many relatives, neighbors, friends and caregivers who will miss her dearly on this side of heaven. We celebrate Bev’s life and hold dear the special legacy of love and faith she left us. The family would like to sincerely thank the staff at Prairie Vista Village for their extraordinary, loving care of our mother. We truly appreciate the kindness and friendship from everyone who was so gracious in supporting, praying for, and loving our mother throughout her life’s journey.
A private family graveside service will be held on December 19, 2020, at 11:00 a.m., at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery.
Condolences for the family may be offered online at: www.hamiltonsfuneralhome.com.
Those desiring to send a card or memorial contribution in loving memory of Beverly may direct it to the family to be designated to Joshua Christian Academy, Inc. and Food Bank of Iowa.

So sorrry to hear that Bev has left us. I remember her smile and laugh whenever we met. Everytime my wife bakes a cake she uses a trick that she learned from Bev to help make them more moist. I am going to miss being able to meet and visit with everyone.
