James Douglas Bane, Jr., age 75, died unexpectedly at his home on Wednesday, December 2, 2020. He was born the son of James Sr. and Nellie (Current) Bane on December 11, 1944 in Des Moines, Iowa. He graduated from North High School in Des Moines in 1962. Jim attended Iowa State University and studied Electrical Tech. He was a member of the ACLU and was the first union member employed by American National Can. He was a pressman for them and retired after 40 years of service. He also served on the American National Can Fire Brigade. Jim served in the National Guard as Military Police and was called to active duty while serving.
Jim’s family was most important to him and he loved spending time with his sons and grandsons. He was a regular at the North Side Senior Center. He enjoyed riding ATVs and motorcycles. Jim was an avid Corvette and Mustang enthusiast. His hobbies included gardening, woodworking, tinkering, and working with remote controlled cars and trains. He will be lovingly remembered as a very humble person.
He is survived by his sons, Jason Bane, Jered Bane (Fongh) and Joel Bane; grandsons, Alex Bane, Jackson Bane and Jameson Bane; friend and ex-wife, Michelle Knight; brother-in-law, Harlan Donaldson; niece, Kara Donaldson and nephew, Aaron Donaldson.
Jim was preceded in death by parents, James and Nellie Bane; and his sister, Christie Donaldson.
Funeral service will take place at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines at 11 a.m. on Saturday, December 12, 2020. Cremation will follow the service.

Jim i will miss you you were a great neighbor and friend you always were there to help and talk to. i will miss watching your garden grow and the constant cucumbers and peppers you gave me. most of all i will miss you your smile and talks we had every week. rip jim missed but not forgoten !!!!
