Joseph J. Muto

Joseph J. Muto, 88, passed away December 1, 2020 at The Village in Indianola.

Joseph was born January 8, 1932 in Des Moines to Joseph and Mary (Perri) Muto. He was one of ten children. Joseph graduated from Dowling High School. He worked for his family’s business, Muto Market on Des Moines’ Southside. In 1963, he went to work selling Buicks, a career he continued into his 70’s. He worked for Conway Buick and later Benson Buick. Joseph met Polly Current at George the Chili King, they were later married. In 1967, the couple built their lifelong home on Des Moines’ Southside. Joseph loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them. He also enjoyed golf and loved to dance. Joseph was a member of the Society of Italian Americans and Christ the King Catholic Church.

Joseph is survived by his daughters, Julie Muto, Suzanne (Gary) Strawn, Teresa (Tim) Pester and Lisa (Bob Tonkinson) Muto; grandchildren, Jennifer, Andrew, Dustin, Kaitlyn, Shelby, Daniel, Mark “Christopher” and Heather; many great-grandchildren; and a host of extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; nine sibling; and his loving wife of over 60 years, Polly.

A Private Graveside service will be held at Glendale Cemetery.
