DONNA JEAN BURTON (WALKER), of Des Moines, Iowa died November 30, 2020 at Iowa Methodist Hospital. A visitation will be held Friday, December 4th from 5 to 7 p.m. at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon St., Des Moines, IA. Funeral services will be Saturday, December 5th at 1:00 p.m. at Sunshine Open Bible Church at East 22nd and Easton. Burial will be at Elm Grove Cemetery in Des Moines.
Donna was born September 10, 1941 in Des Moines, Iowa to James and Christabelle (Mauk) Walker. She worked for the State of Iowa in the Vital Records Department. She was a member of Sunshine Open Bible and enjoyed volunteering wherever she was called. She was extremely active in her church and was known for coordinating the funeral dinners for others. This truly was her ministry. She prepared communion and volunteered for many other events put on by the church. She also volunteered at Hospice of Iowa and would sit with, and pray for people in their last days of life.
She is survived by her children; James Thomas of Des Moines, IA.; Jerry Thomas, Jr. (Sheri) of Maryville, IL.; (Sherry Persinger (Troy Palmer) of Elkart, IA.; and Gary Thomas (Lisa) of Pleasant Hill, IA.
Grand Children Amanda (Tony) Luna, Reggie (Nicole) Thomas, Jason (Mendy) Franklin, Aleisha (Spencer) Davis, Alyssa Thomas, Dakota Persinger, Sierra (Matt) Young, Brock Persinger, Kelsey Thomas, Kendra Thomas, Nicole (Shelby) West and Cheyenne Thomas.
Great grand-children Jordan Wessel, Jesse Thomas, Paizlee Luna, Bronx Luna, Sadie Franklin, Shelby Franklin, Ella Franklin, Isabella Stultz, Asher Davis, Carter Persinger, Harrison Persinger, Aubree Colwell, Abel Young, and Elliott West. Also, two sisters; Eula (Ron) Burton and Betty (Doyle) Kooker of Des Moines.
She was dearly loved and remained very close to her step-children, Jeff (Carole) Bailey (Jessica Bailey); Barb (Wayde) Wilson (Joshua Kincaid and Bailey Kincaid); Brenda Bailey-Smith (Cody, Colton and Makenze), Annette (Corey) Ditsworth (Tyler, Jazzmin, Hunter and Luke), Great grandchildren Emma, Ruger, Porter, Riley, Ollie and Sharlene. June (Wade) Cahill (Wade and Brent) and Janet Pedersen (Miranda).
Donna was preceded in death by her parents, James and Christabelle Walker; her brother, Sonny Walker; husband John Burton, husband Roger Bailey and granddaughter Jenny Bailey.

I worked with Donna for many years in Vital Records. She was an amazing lady and beautiful friend. I laughed with her and cried with her when my own mother passed away. She was there for me. Praying for strength and comfort for her family during this time.

My deepest sympathy to the family of Donna. I am so sorry to hear of her passing. We worked many years together in Vital Records. She was a kind and thoughtful lady. Praying for God's comfort and peace at this difficult time.

Jim, Jerry, Sherry, Gary, Sheri, Lisa and all the kids we are so sorry and our prayers are with you all! I can't believe Aunt Donna is not here with us but I PRAISE God that Jesus Christ was her Savior and we have HOPE in the TRUTH that we will be with her again for sure.
So many awesome memories of Aunt Donna but the most important was her LOVE for God, her Children, her Grands, then add her love for family, Church family and friends! She will be missed but not forgotten! 💕

So sorry to hear of Donna's passing, she was a lovely lady. I new Donna when I was a little girl she new me as (Boop) and the rest of us (The Millard's). Art & Colleen was her and your dad ( Jerry's) friends. My thoughts and prayers are with you all. R.I.P. Donna

I'm so sorry to hear of the passing of Donna. I worked with her in Vital Records and enjoyed her friendship very much. Because of covid, I won't make it out this weekend but know her family and Donna will be in my thoughts and prayers all weekend. RIP Donna.
