David A. Swim
November 27, 2020
David Allen Swim, 52, passed away on November 27th, 2020. David was born in Des Moines on October 26th, 1968 to William “Ed” Swim and “Maggie” Ann Rock Swim. He grew up in the East side of Des Moines and graduated East High School in 1987. David was a meticulous sheet metal worker, and was liked and well-respected by many of his Union Local 45 brothers.
David is survived by his parents and his loving wife and high school sweetheart Jodi Eilene Troutman Swim. David was blessed with five children who will miss his humor, quick wit, and wisdom-- Nikkole (Jesse), Jessica (Maurilio), Allyson, Malinda, and David Jr. He was a grandfather to 6 grandchildren, Megan, Payton, Jayden, Nathan, Aunna, and Julienn, who remember him as their “candy grandpa”. He is also survived by his siblings Janyce (Kevin) Nelson, Kathy (Paul) Sawhill, Ed (Sherrill) Swim, and Jerry (Darla) Swim and many nieces and nephews.
As a child, David spent many summers camping and fishing with family and close friends (the Chip Rose family). He loved helping others, and had the mechanical aptitude to fix nearly anything. As a teenager he repaired bikes and lawn mowers around the neighborhood. He was inventive, and as he got older he often helped his children with school projects or created his own unique crafts in the yard. He loved to spend his time searching craigslist and curbs for treasures, and was constantly creating something out of the ordinary.
David advocated for treating each person with love and “excellence”. His loss will be held in the hearts of his loved ones forever. His friends and family pray that he is reunited with his best friend and loyal companion, Woody.
A graveside service will take place at Laurel Hill Cemetery on Thursday, December 10th at 12:30 pm following a funeral service for immediate family.

So very sorry about David's untimely passing. I remember when Margaret was pregnant with him and I remember him as a very cute baby in his playpen. (We are cousins). Sympathetic thoughts and prayers for peace & comfort for all of you. ❤
