Donald Lloyd Thomas, age 91, passed away Tuesday, November 17, 2020.

Don was born October 5, 1929 in Mitchellville, Iowa to Harris and Ruth (Ritchey) Thomas. He was the next to the youngest of eight children.

On November 26, 1950 he married Virginia Murrow at the Mitchellville Christian Church. They had three children, Bruce, Brenda and Bernice.

He was employed as a Foreman for Firestone Retread Plant. After retiring from Firestone, he worked for Medicap Pharmacy. He also spent most of his adult life farming.

He enjoyed farming, Iowa State basketball games, being a 4-H leader and assisting kids with their cattle projects. In his later years, he liked sitting outside and feeding the birds/squirrels and visiting with neighbors. Don and Virginia also enjoyed several bus trips. Any chance he and Virginia would get they would coffee with others at the Senior Center in Mitchellville. Don always loved seeing his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Virginia; son, Bruce (Bev); daughter, Brenda Askland (Kevin); son in-law, Dave Blake and sister, Hazel Van Ekeren. He also is survived by his grandchildren, Brian Thomas (Jen); Allison Hollingsworth (Zach); Brad Thomas (Katherine); Sarah Carter (Blayne); Michael Blake and nine great grandchildren.

Don was preceded in death by his parents, six siblings, and daughter, Bernice Blake.

There will be a private graveside service at Mitchellville Cemetery in Mitchellville, Iowa, on Tuesday, November 24.
