Robert W. Ross, 51, was called to his heavenly home early Tuesday morning, August 4th, after a two-year battle with parotid cancer. Bob was surrounded in his home by family and dear friends.
The youngest of four children, Bob was born June 30th 1958 to Julius and Bernice Ross in Lincoln, Nebraska. On May 6th, 1977 Bob married his wife Cheryl at Calvary Lutheran Church in Lincoln where they spent 22 years raising their family before moving to Ankeny, Iowa in 1999. Bob was employed as a Senior Project Manager in Land Planning at Snyder & Associates in Ankeny.
An avid Husker fan, Bob shared his enthusiasm for Nebraska football by amazing his family and friends with endless amounts of Big Red trivia. Monday Night Football parties with the guys was one of his favorite past times. Bob will be most remembered for his ability to laugh and lighten the mood with a contagious sense of humor which led to countless treasured relationships.
Hope Lutheran Church in east Des Moines became Bob and Cheryl's new church home where they have both served in a number of capacities. Through service to their Lord, they acquired many close friendships, and consider these their "Iowa" family.
Bob was a deeply loved husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle, and friend. He will be especially missed by his wife Cheryl; daughter: Katie (Haris) Tanovic of Oswego, IL; sons: Andrew (Sarah) Ross of St. Louis, MO, and Adam (Christy) Ross of Ankeny, IA; grandchildren: Aisha, Leila, and Reyhan Tanovic, Espen and Isly Ross; mother: Bernice Ross of Lincoln, NE; siblings: Karen (Myron) Gagner, Ron (Mary) Ross, Kathy (Dean) Johnson, all of Lincoln, NE; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Julius Ross.
The family would like to express a special thank you to their treatment "family" of Dr. Deming and staff at Mercy Radiation and Oncology.
A service celebrating Bob's life will be at 1:30 pm Sunday, August 9th at Hope Lutheran Church, 3857 E. 42nd St. in Des Moines, followed by a time of food and fellowship at Hope. In Memory of Bob the family requests that you wear your best "Husker" red to the memorial service. Red Out for Bob!
Memorials may be made to the family which will be donated to Head and Neck Cancer research and Hope Lutheran Church Education Department.
