Opal Marie Tomlinson, 102, died peacefully Tuesday, August 4, 2009 at Mill Pond Retirement Community in Ankeny. The funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, August 7, 2009 at Bondurant Christian Church, with burial at Cory Grove Cemetery in Elkhart.
Opal was born October 26, 1906 in Bondurant to Pearl and John Friedrickson. She was a member of the Bondurant Christian Church, the American Cribbage Congress, and she established the Bondurant 4H Program, of which she was a leader for 25 years. She also belonged to a card club for many years, and did many things with the Rolling Agers in Bondurant. She enjoyed traveling, cooking, crocheting, quilting, playing cribbage and pitch, gardening, playing her organ, and baking. She was famous for her red cake, which many Bondurant graduates wanted to have at their graduation parties.
Opal is survived by her children: Fred (Jean) Tomlinson, Hugh Tomlinson, Kathleen (Dale) Barrett, Jim (Janet) Tomlinson, and Margaret (Don) Jackson; 19 grandchildren; 51 great-grandchildren; and 21 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Donald, Sr.; her son Donald, Jr., and three brothers.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Bondurant Alumni Association, or Bondurant Christian Church. Visitation will be from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. Thursday, August 6, 2009 at Hamilton's Altoona Funeral Home, 105 4th Street SW in Altoona.
