Gerald “George” Weir, age 78, passed away Friday, November 6, 2020. George was born April 29, 1942 in Rock Island, Illinois to Roy and Hazel (Kline) Weir. He lived on the Eastside of Des Moines for a while before moving to the Southside, where he primarily grew up. He worked at an armory in Colorado for a time and then later was employed by Firestone as a tire maker, retiring in 2004. He was a member of the United Workers Union in Des Moines.
George enjoyed traveling and cruising with his Harley or various cars and trucks that he owned. He liked gambling for fun and was a talented painter, working primarily with oil paints. He will be remembered by family and friends as a “stand up guy”.
He is survived by his children, Robert LeRoy Weir, Rodney Eugene Weir, and Shayna Jalene Weir; special friend, Kay Weir; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and other extended family and friends.
George was preceded in death by his children, Brenda Loraine Carpenter and Rusty Joseph Weir; his siblings, Darlene, Larry, and Melvin; and his parents, Roy and Hazel Weir.
Due to Covid, there will be no services at this time. Cremation will occur and burial of the urn will take place at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the family directly or through Hamilton’s Funeral Home.

I worked with George at Firestone. He always had good story or a funny joke to tell. I will miss him.
