Mark W. Smith

Mark Wayne Smith, age 72, passed away Sunday, November 1, 2020 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa.

Mark was born June 11, 1948 in Des Moines, Iowa to Norman and Delores Smith. He was a graduate of North High School in Des Moines. He proudly served overseas in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He worked for Meredith Corporation and RR Donnelley for over 20 years. He was an avid NASCAR fan and loved all types of racing. He was extremely proud of his 20 plus years of sobriety.

Mark was always ready with a joke. His sense of humor was a blessing during the serious times in life as he was always able to lighten the mood by bringing joy and laughter. Above all else, he adored his family, especially spending time with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his children, Tracy (Melinda) Smith and Shannon Williams; his grandchildren, Essias, Arian, Ayanne, Evario, and Alehya Smith, and Kayleah, Kamyra, Keyaura, and Kaliyahna; his sisters, Vickie Van Devender and Marcie (Dick) Kellis; and other extended family and friends.

Mark was preceded in death by his parents, Norman and Delores Smith; and his brothers, Allen and Chuck Smith.

Burial with military honors will take place at Iowa Veterans Cemetery, 34024 Veterans Memorial Drive, Adel, IA 50003 on Monday, November 9, 2020 at 11:00 a.m.
