Shirley L. Phoenix

Shirley Louise Phoenix, age 97, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 31, 2020. She was born April 16, 1923 in Diagonal, Iowa to Eugene and Ruth (Jessup) Greene. She attended North High School in Des Moines. Shirley was married to Donald R. Phoenix on January 20, 1941. To this union four children were born. Shirley worked for John Deere beginning in 1948 in the Des Moines facility until her retirement on February 1, 1982. Shirley worked as a computer programmer/analyst. She was a member of Highland Park Christian Church for over 70 years. She enjoyed travelling and camping in her free time.

She is survived by her daughter, Sharon (Earl) Kern, sons, John (Diana) Phoenix and Bob Phoenix, three grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, one great- great-grandchild, and sister, Alberta Brown.

Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Phoenix; daughter, Phyllis Phoenix; sister, Phyllis and brother, Robert.

There will be a graveside service at Glendale Cemetery, 4909 University Ave, Des Moines, IA 50311 on Friday, November 6, 2020 at 2:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be directed to Highland Park Christian Church, 4260 NW 6th Drive, Des Moines, IA 50313, in Shirley’s honor.
