James "Jim" Wendel, Jr.

James Franklin Wendel Jr. of Des Moines, IA and born in Omaha, NE at the Offutt Airforce Base was 68 years old, and passed away Thursday, October 29th of cancer.
Jim worked at Owens and Minor for many years, working his way from the bottom to the top and retired in 2018.
Jim really loved wood working, lawn and gardening, was a very good pool player, and he enjoyed being with his family and friends.
Jim was preceded in death by his mother, Anna, and father, James Sr. He is survived by his 3 daughters and their husbands, Kimberlee (Arnold), Tracey (Kenny) and Melissa (Josh); his 2 sisters, Mary Lou and Nancy; 12 grandchildren: James, Michael, Russell, Alex, Timothy, Skyler, Destiney, Josh, Jessica, Tj, Alex and Kenzie; 13 great-grandchildren: Sophia, Elizabeth, Lanie, Jordan, Journey, Shaylynn, Clarissa, Ryder, Memphis, Oliver, Gabe, Elleon and Jaxxon.
He was a very loving father, grandpa, Papa and brother, and the only friend you would be so lucky to know. He will be forever in our hearts, minds and voice in our ears. He was loved greatly by many.
A Celebration of Life gathering will be held at Hamilton’s Altoona Funeral Home, 105 4th Street SW, on Thursday, November 5, 2020, from 3:00 – 5:00 p.m.

Kim,Tracy and Melissa...I am truly sorry for your loss. your father will be missed by all those that had the pleasure of knowing him. I know nothing that anyone says will take away the hurt but I want you to know I love you gals and im here for you.

Jim will be missed remember times on Friday nights with my mom and dad, Jim and Carol playing pool and drinking beer in the basement of the home they lived in Ankeny. Jim made everyone feel welcome now he is with my mom and dad enjoying talking about the old times. May God Bless 🙏 his girls and grandkids and make their heart's ❤ heal.

I am so sorry for you loss. I knew Jim for many years and he was a great friend. We had many good times together. I will miss his smile and sense of humor.Fly with the angels my friend until we meet again.
