Mary Jane (Hartnell) Pinegar
October 20, 1947 – October 20, 2020
Mary Jane (Hartnell) Pinegar was born on October 20, 1947 in Santa Maria, California to the late James and Ethel Hartnell. Mary graduated from Santa Maria Union High School in 1967.
In 1974 she moved to Des Moines, Iowa, with her three young girls; Sheryl, Charlie, and Tammy. Bill had a daughter, Kim, from his first marriage. During their union Bill and Mary had another daughter Maggie a few years later, then when they found out they were pregnant again, having given up hope for a boy, they named their last daughter Billie. Little did they know, nine years later, they would be blessed with Michael, the son they always wanted.
Mary was a devoted wife and mother with a big heart; she took in everyone’s kids; nieces, nephews and neighbors. She was also a proud grandmother and great grandmother. Mary loved gardening, reading, listening to music crocheting, bird watching and the outdoors, but most of all, she enjoyed spending time with friends and family.
On the day of her birth Mary succumbed to a long and arduous battle with Dementia; she died peacefully at home surrounded by loved ones. Mary is survived by her husband William (Bill) Pinegar, her siblings; Charles (Charlie) Hartnell, Ramona Mooney, Alice (Ali) Davis (Glenn), Fernie Moody, Linda (Polly) Bumen, and her seven children; Kim Kopp (Steve), Sheryl Thompson (Sheldon), Charlotte (Charlie) Iseminger (Bill), Tammy Harrington (Lynda Leonhard), Mary (Maggie) Wilkins (Jason), Billie Pinegar (Robert King), Michael Pinegar (Whitney). Mary also leaves behind 23 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
Mary will be remembered by her family and friends as an angel on earth and will be dearly missed.
The family respectfully requests social distancing and the wearing of masks. A Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 27th from 4:00-7:00pm at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street in Des Moines. Funeral services will also be held at Hamilton’s, on Wednesday, October 28th at 10:00 am. The Internment will follow the service beginning at 12:30pm at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery, 34024 Veterans Memorial Drive in Van Meter, Iowa. A reception will follow the service at the P.A.R.C. Recreation Center, 5374 NE 12th Avenue, Pleasant Hill, Iowa.

Willie;
Sorry to hear of your wife's passing. May you know that she is in a better place.I
It's sad that life makes us so busy that we don't keep in touch except in sad times. And with Covid-19, we have to avoid even family get togethers.
May god and family get you through this.
