Sharon Dougherty
October 19, 2020
Sharon Kay Dougherty passed away at the age of 70, on October 19, 2020 at Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa.
Sharon was born in Des Moines on July 13, 1950 to Peggy (Wamsher) and Gene Faust, and was a life long resident.
Sharon graduated from East High in 1968. The following year she married the love of her life, Rich Dougherty, and together they started a family. They would have celebrated 51 years on October 25.
Children were the highlight of Sharon’s life. They opened their home to over 200 foster care children over a twenty-five year span. She donated many hours to sewing dresses for little girls in other countries. Sharon lovingly operated a day care out of her home, cherishing each of the children.
Sharon’s faith was strong. She was a founding member of New Life Church, and faithfully attended the lady’s bible study.
Her memory will be cherished by her husband, Rich; children, Rick (Melissa) Dougherty, Jean (Rob) Bowen; grandchildren, Ivy Davis, Abby and Amber Dougherty, Cassidy and Emilee Bowen; siblings, Karen (David) Rainey and Robert (Cheryl) Faust; and many nieces, nephews, and other loving family members.
She joined her parents in heaven.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., on Saturday, October 31, 2020, at New Life Church, 6036 NE 12th Ave, Pleasant Hill, with burial to follow at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery. The family will greet friends on Friday from 5-7 p.m., also at the church.

My aunt passed onto Heaven. My aunt was a woman of faith. She took me to church as a small child. Her home was one of prayer, devotion, and peace, and I remember working summers with her, at her daycare. She had a giving heart. Aunt Shari: Give grandma a big hug for me. I imagine you sitting in grandma's recliner, drinking coffee, catching up on all the missed years. I can hear grandma's laugh and your snort. Love you always. Diana Kay
